Venting In-Ground Trampolines To Get The Best Bounce

When a jumper depresses the mat of a trampoline, the air under the trampoline is compressed. In an above-ground trampoline, this effect is not usually noticeable. However, for in-ground trampolines, a bellows effect within the excavation is generated. A sizable amount of air must be evacuated from under and around the trampoline each time the jumper depresses the mat.

If the air is not removed after each bounce, the bounce characteristics of the trampoline are rapidly diminished. Avyna has two models of in-ground trampolines, both of which provide excellent jumping characteristics.

Competitive Approaches - One major manufacturer places vents within the safety frame pads. This may evacuate the air, but the safety purpose of the pad to keep the jumper from hitting the springs or the frame is compromised. Perhaps as significant, the structure of the pad is greatly weakened shortening the pad’s useful life. Warranties on these pads are only two years compared to the expected normal pad life of at least three years, a 50 percent reduction.

Another major in-ground trampoline manufacturer forces the air to exhaust between the frame pad and the springs and bed. The pad is lifted by the trapped air with each bounce with the flap of the pad against the bed dampened by some type of SILENCERS. The up and down movement of the pad against the springs is the probable cause for the warranty on this pad also to be only two years. Probably, as a result, these beds have a shorter than normal two-year warranty. Finally, to further offset the trapped air, they have increased the spring count, but this only stiffens the bounce characteristics further.
